Since her early school days, Sharmila has invested her energies in sports like swimming, tennis and basketball while maintaining high academic standards. She was a national sub-junior swimming champion with over 72 gold and silver medals won in state and national aquatic meets from 1997 to 2001.

In 2002, at age 11, she was introduced to Golf at a local summer camp. Initially she played golf just for fun but soon felt an inseparable bond with the golf club and a liking for the game which eventually turned into her passion.

In 2006, at age 15, she won her first tournament at the “Southern India Ladies golf tournament 2006” by 13/15 shots against established players and has never looked back ever since.

She represented India at the “Asian Games – Doha 2006”, “Asia Pacific Junior Golf Tournament”, “Callaway Junior World Golf Championships” in San Diego, “The Queen Sirikit Cup” at Japan, “The Malaysian Open Junior” where she finished at 2nd place and other international tournaments.

She was a sensation in the Amateur golf circuit with numerous accolades under her belt with a total of 9 Amateur tour wins. She was awarded the “No. 1. Junior Golfer for the year 2005-2006” in India, “Top Lady Amateur Golfer in India” for the year 2007-2008, and the “Amateur – Lady Golfer of the year (IGULS): 2007”.

Following her passion she turned down the opportunity to pursue a college education via a golf scholarship in USA when she decided to enter professional golf circuit in 2009 by joining WGAI (Women’s Golf Association of India).

Sharmila Nicollet has won 15 Professional WGAI tour and many other international tours to mark her presence on the professional circuit.

In 2009, she won two titles on WGAI Tour, a top 10 finish at the “Thai LPGA event” in Bangkok and clinched won the “2009-10 WGAI Order of Merit”.

2010-11 was a golden period for Sharmila where she won 5 professional WGAI tiles and the “WGAI Order of Merit 2010-2011” for second straight season. She was also awarded as the “Professional – Player of the year (WGAI): 2010”.

In 2012 Sharmila Nicollet became the youngest Indian to qualify for “the Ladies European Tour”. She is also the 2nd Indian after “Smriti Mehra” who earned a full card at the Ladies European Tour 2012. In 2018 she became the 1st Indian golfer to qualify for the “China Ladies PGA Tour”.

In 2012 there came a slight dip in her performance due to multiple wrist and toe injuries and hence she decided to take lessons with “Phillip Kenyon”, who has taught Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke, to improve her game.

She was coached in India by coach “Tarun Sardesai” and is currently taking her golf lessons at the “Gary Gilchrist Academy” in Clermont, New York. To deal with the mental challenges of the game she works with sports psychologist “Badri Narayanan”.

Sharmila, a polyglot is fluent in English, French, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Urdu. As a kid she modeled for “Kwalty Walls Ice Cream and Biscuits” and in later years has served as the brand ambassador for “Marriott Hotels”, “Zion Hill Golf County”, “PUMA”, “Hero Motocorp”, “Krishnapatnam Port”, and “Haut Golf”.
